Studio On Fire

My boyfriend and I are in the process of making our first forays into planning our wedding and, looking at wedding invitations, one idea we came across time and time again is letterpress invites. Letterpressing is a type of relief printing of text and/or imagery.  Letterpress has enjoyed a revival over the last 15-20 years, especially in the UK and across the pond.  There are a wealth of different styles out there, but these ones from Studio On Fire based in the US really caught my eye - both color and designwise!  All images via Studio On Fire and their blog, Beast Pieces.  Check out their websites for better quality color on these images too.

Charles Harper

I found these wonderful illustrations on the Flickr group, Charles Harper Fan Club.  Charles Harper was an American Modernist artist born in 1922 and who passed away in 2007.  He was reknowned for his wonderful images of birds and wildlife which he painted in a style he called minimal realism - above are just a few of his pictures. I just love this stylised work.

Cardboard Cities

I can't remember where I found out about Cardboard Cities and I don't know anything about the artist except that she is based in the UK and you can see more of her work here, but I just love the colors and style.

Leanne Graeff

Pretty prints from Leanne Graeff.

Jo Hamilton - Crocheter extraordinaire

I was having my daily dose of Storque this evening when I came across these incredible crocheted portraits by Jo Hamilton, who originally trained at the Glasgow School of Art and is now exhibiting her work in the US.  If you are lucky enough to live in Portland, US, then you can see these masterpieces in the flesh (or yarn!) at Stumpdown Downtown.

Luxeville

Luxeville is home to these lovely offerings - I'm especially fond of the cashmere blankets - that candy pink polka dot version is just devine!

Headhoods

What a great idea from Headhoods straight outta Brooklyn! I fancy a Michael Jackson for myself!

Finally...

I made some new things and actually got round to putting them in my Etsy store today!  Not sure if you can tell, but I got a thing for birdies and also, it appears, a thing for appalling photography - sorry about the image quality - photography is not a strength of mine!  More images on my flickr. page.

Kawaii Aye Lads!!

A bit of a belated post but as is my motto - better late than never, back in March it was Ned Rose Day, an annual fun day in the UK spent raising money for people less fortunate than ourselves.  As I was working in a local primary school, the teachers had to customise an item of clothing or accessory at home and come to school in it on ned Nose Day.  I had a pair of vile shoes that I bought in a moment of madness and so they were the victims of my customisation - I tried drawing designs on them at first as they were a horrid off white color but that frankly looked like a dogs dinner so I started messing about with my left over kawaii tape and old beads I bought in a fantastic shop in Mitte in Berlin ages ago and this was the gaudy but fun result - the children loved them and made me do a hideously embarrassing catwalk through the assembly hall to show 'em off - For sure I ain't no Kate Moss!

Isak

I just love these designs from Isak, a small indie UK based design company.  I love the colors, the birds and the products they make - gorgeous fluffy blankets and cute ceramic cups. Check out their blog here and their website here.

Just a quick post, just found these lovely knitted goodies on Etsy by Sara Carr, a London based designer and thought I would share them.

Happy Happy Easter

I've spent today creating a few little easter designs like this one, as part of my quest to create a print a day for the whole of this year, but now its time to down tools and enjoy the easter holidays! I will try and post of my efforts in the next few weeks!

WIll Laren

I love these illustrations by Will Laren, they always make me laugh and he regularly updates his Flickr page with new illustrations which often have me howling with laughter - OK, maybe not howling, but chuckling away! I think they'd make great cards or prints but i don't think he sells them if he did I might have a whole wall covered in them!

Kate Sutton

Another talented Kate, this time its Kate Sutton, whose work I have been a fan of for a long time and thought its about time her lovely designs were featured on the blog.  Kate is also UK based and does lovely illustration work for companies such as Urban Outfitters, Renegade Craft Fair and Roxy and many more.  I particularly love her cuckoo clock designs which were made for an exbition in the US.  Check out her website here.
